Staying on a healthy eating plan can be difficult, and it’s something that we all struggle with from time to time. Everyone deserves a cheat meal from time to time. This is nothing to be ashamed of. However if you are feeling like every day is a battle against temptation there are some simple tips that might make sticking to your diet easier.

Stay Away From The Danger Zone

The kitchen is a danger zone that it is really difficult to avoid, but it is possible to remove much of the danger by making healthier choices when you are shopping. Even if you make healthy choices it may simply be that you are overeating.  If this is the case then it will be important to look at your portion sizes.

If the danger zone happens to be a favourite fast food option or sandwich spot then why not try visiting after you have eaten your healthy meal. This way you are far less likely to go for that convenient snack.

Find A Rhythm That Works For You

Everybody is different. We all get hungry at different times and our eating habits usually have to fit around how we feel, or what we are doing. If you find that you get hungry between meals then try switching it up a little bit and eat more frequent, but smaller meals. By spreading your food intake means you will be less likely to resort to snacking.

Get Distracted

It can be easy to get so caught up in what we are eating. However a lot of the time food consumption happens without us realising how much we are actually eating. If you feel yourself getting hungry then try getting distracted with something. Talking to someone, listening to a song, doing some yoga or going for a walk.

Try Preparing Meals In Advance

If you are trying to lose weight then preparing your meals ahead of time can be great for a variety of reasons. You can manage portions to make sure that you are not over eating. Crucially it also avoids chefs privilege too. Having pre prepared meals makes life a lot more convenient too. Instead of reaching for the food delivery app or digging out an unhealthy ready meal, a fresh prepped meal can be cooked just as quickly as any delivery person can get to the door.

Treat Yourself

There is no point denying yourself every time you want to eat something that isn’t technically included in your daily plan. Naughty foods in moderation are ok, and by letting yourself indulge in something you fancy, you may be more motivated to do some physical activity, or be more strict with yourself the next day.

Another thing to think about is trying to find healthier alternatives to the things that you love. Swapping out unhealthy options with lower fat, or natural options means the treats are not something to feel too guilty about. Whatever you do, just try to keep things as enjoyable as possible. That way you are more likely to stick to the plan.
